Indictment

An indictment is a document that is presented and lodged with the registrar of a division of the High Court, stating that the accused is alleged to be guilty of committing a particular crime. This indictment sets out details, such as the date and place where the crime was allegedly committed and the personal details of the accused. A summary of the facts of the case may also be attached to the indictment if no preparatory examination was held.
