According to the National Key Points Act 102 of 1980, a national key point is an area which has been declared to be a national key point by the Minister of Defence because its loss, damage, disruption or immobilization may prejudice the Republic of South Africa. An area may also be declared to be a national key point if it is necessary or expedient to do so for the protection of the Republic, or because to do so is in the public interest.
